Arbroath hit back to close gap at top

Arbroath closed the gap on Forfar at the top of the Scottish League Two table after a 3-1 win at Montrose.

Matty Smith gave the hosts a first-half lead, but Arbroath showed their title credentials to recover, with goals from Matthew Smyth, Ryan McCord and Omar Kader sealing a comfortable win.

It leaves Dick Campbell's side nine points off the top after Forfar were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Elgin, in a game where both sides finished with 10 men.

The league leaders took the lead in the seventh minute as Josh Peters slotted home from close range, but Brian Cameron equalised just after the hour.

Eddie Malone and David Brownlie were both shown red late on.

Peter Weatherson scored the only goal of the game as Annan saw off Edinburgh, who slip closer to the bottom of the table after a 1-0 defeat.

Stirling and Berwick shared four goals in a 2-2 draw, with Albion coming from two down to snatch a dramatic point with two goals in the final five minutes.

Lee Hamilton and Aaron Murrell looked to have secured a win for the visitors, but trialist Aiden Malone pulled one back before Sean Dickson equalised with two minutes remaining.
